In the natural hair care world all you hear about is Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) + Baking Soda wash this and ACV + Baking Soda wash that.
Well I'm here to let you know that this is definitely one of the times you should listen to the masses and incorporate this economical and invaluable aid into your hair care routine - especially for my fellow loc'd family.
Benefits
Balances hair and sebum ph
Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal properties
Cleans and Clarify
Reduces Frizz and adds shine
Downsides
Like everything in life there are downsides. In this case, the downside is that this is truly a M A J O R C L E A N S E that strips all the oils in your hair including the natural ones.
Suggested Frequency
Bi-monthly is what is suggested by various black natural hair guru but for those of us that rock locs I suggest doing it semiannually. I typically do mine following Memorial Day Weekend and right before the new year. I chose these times because Memorial Day weekend is the one time I truly consider getting in a pool and having my head submerged. Any other time its a chest down situation and even then, it's far and between. The second date works perfectly because it six months away, days before my birthday and it's a great start going into the new year with deeply cleansed locs.
